The email newsletter has been published for over 3 years. The Last Week in Digital Media blog has an archive of most old newsletters.

The Last Week in Digital Media blog is currently published every Sunday afternoon U.S. EST (New York). There is no newsletter during major US holidays, vacation days, or in the event of a major business or personal conflict.

The Last Week in Digital Media Podcast has been retired. It was beta-tested in 2018 using a text to speech service. Old versions of the podcast are still available.

Here's the news you may have missed: Industry News YouTube released their Top 10 Ads of the year. The most viewed ad of the year was from Samsung in India. An interesting trend is that the top videos are actually (on average) longer in length than the Top 10 of last year. Instagram is testing a standalone messaging app called Direct. It's being tested in 6 markets Chile, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and Uruguay and is available on iOS and Android. Since I missed a week with the Thanksgiving break, this week it's 2 weeks for the price of 1. Industry News Co-Founder and CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, wrote an op-ed on Axios on how Snapchat wants to separate social from media and gave perspective on what role Snapchat fulfills in both (and Spiegel takes issue with brand messages getting interfused into news from friends). Here's the news from last week: Partner / Industry News starting with something that is already confirmed as not happening. There were rumors early in the week that Amazon was going to launch an ad-supported version of Amazon Prime Video. But this rumor was shut down by Amazon, telling the Verge that "We have no plans to create a free, ad-supported version of Prime Video.” in a potential sign of publisher consolidation, Mashable sold for about $50MM to Ziff Davis. Industry & Partner News as we honor Veterans Day, in China 11/11 is Single's Day - a shopping event bigger than Black Friday, with Alibaba selling $25B in merchandise volume. Industry & Partner News Facebook is testing a new feature called "Sets" which are Pinterest type collections of posts, links, videos and more. This is only available as a very limited test for some users. Nielsen continues to build out their Nielsen Marketing Cloud and is now using Gracenote TV data connected with the Exelate (Nielsen's DMP) to provide cross platform TV targeting. Enabling the targeting of audiences exposed to TV ads with digital advertising. Here's all the news you may have missed: Perhaps the biggest news of the week is that there is now a bill before Congress to regulate political advertising on Facebook and Google in the same way as other media publishers.
