I’ve owned an Oculus headset since the Oculus Go. These days I’m using the Oculus Quest 2. I can’t justify the upgrade to the Quest 3, as much as I want one.

I’ve bought more than a few of the non-official ones from Amazon, this is the best based on my tests and is less than half the price of the official pro head strap.

To make the Oculus Quest 2 more comfortable and usable, you should get a Quest 2 Pro strap but at US$50+tax you may be looking for a cheaper but as good alternative. After scouring Amazon and buying more than a few to find out what works, the best Oculus Quest 2 Pro Head Strap Alternative is this one from Kiwi Design. I got mine for US$20 in one of their regular price drops, but you can usually also pick up returned Very Good one as an Amazon Warehouse deals for the same price.

Review: Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap for Oculus Quest 2

Pros:

  • easy setup (relative)
  • great padding, both at top of head and back
  • quiet click-wheel for tightening
  • excellent micro-adjustments
  • visor-flip mode (you can flip up your Quest)
  • cleaning kit in the box!

Cons:

  • no quick release button
  • bulk (click wheel is not nested inside strap)
  • you may need a new storage case (I got this one) / or remove strap between use

On the Cons, the absence of quick release button is minor con. I have tested headsets with quick release buttons, but they don’t let you use the tightening well to tighten and loosen the headset. My favorite thing about the Kiwi head strap is the wheel turns both ways, so you get perfect micro adjustments. I’d rather have micro adjustments so you can tweak comfort while you play rather than having a button that just releases it completely and then you need to reset. This is why I believe the Kiwi is the best Oculus Quest 2 or strap alternative.

Kiwi Design Oculus Quest 2 Setup

The setup, like all pro-style Oculus Quest 2 head straps is straight forward. You gently unclip your original stock strap, remove the face pad, thread in the Kiwi headband, replace everything and you’re done. Takes less than 5minutes and you can’t make a mistake.

Kiwi Design Oculus Quest 2 Head Strap with Battery

If you want to be bold, Kiwi also make an Oculus Quest 2 Head Strap with a built-in battery. These typically go for around $50, which still makes it better value than the official Meta Quest strap.

Others Tested / Not Recommended

Trying to find the best Oculus Quest pro-style head strap, I bought more than a few from Amazon. There are plenty of cheap ones that look identical to the pro head strap but they have either more complicated setup (you have to thread bands into your Quest and the strap); or their padding is sup par; or their click wheel is so loud and just feels cheap and nasty; or the quick release button is so spring it feels like the headset will just fall off your head when you release it. The Transnovo strap was particularly disappointing and a classic case of you get what you pay for, so avoid the Transnovo Quest 2 head strap.

BONUS ADVICE

If you want a good reliable USB C charging solution for your Oculus Quest 2, this one from PWR+ is under $25 and works a treat.
