A quick post to help other owners of the JLAB Epic Mechanical Keyboard and JLab Go.

JLAB Keyboards are great value, I mainly use the JLab Epic Mechanical Keyboard which is a multi OS/multi device mechanical keyboard – it works on Windows, MacOS, and Android. This means the keys can switch between CMD/ALT and OPT/Start (without the need to physically remove the keys).

The JLab keyboards do not detect your OS automatically, so you manually need to tell the keyboard which operating system you are using, this is done with a keypress combination.

  • MacOS – Fn + Q
  • Android – Fn + W (really Windows should have been W… JLAB, what were you thinking!?!)
  • Windows – Fn + E

The Fn key is on the lower right, one across from the space bar.

I wish the JLAB autodetected the operating system, or at least the JLAB work app would supported autodetection – but alas it does not! The good news, is unless you are customizing the other hotkeys, then you don’t  really need the JLAB work app. The fact no app is required is really a bonus, as it makes it easy to connect and use the JLAB Epic quickly with any device.

If you own a JLab Go, these instructions still apply (although there’s no JLAB work app support) but you may need help with pairing across devices. The JLab Go Connect button has a colored LED beside it, the color codes for JLab pairing are:

  • Purple 2.4G (the dongle)
  • Blue (Bluetooth 1)
  • Yellow (Bluetooth 3)

Once you are at the correct color, hold the connect button until the pairing light flashes to enable pairing mode, then connect via Bluetooth on your device.

Hope this helps someone else!
