Yes, you can cancel Google One and they will pro-rata refund you for any unused balance. There’s a 2 step process to fully cancel Google One and it’s best done on a desktop vs mobile. Desktop is better as if you do this on your phone, Google may spawn various Google apps or services, making the process less intuitive.
Why might you want to do cancel Google One? Maybe you’re switching away from a shared family plan? Maybe you want to use Google Play credit to pre-pay a subscription? Maybe you are migrating from Google One to some other service? Whatever the reason, here’s how to cancel Google One completely.
This obviously comes with a huge caveat, if you’re maxed out on GMail storage, Google Drive, Google Photo backups – you will get all sort of warnings and alerts saying you can’t send email, etc. In my own tests, Google does not purge anything immediately so you have enough time to switch to a new subscription, etc. If you are migrating data, I’d migrate data first then cancel.
Step 1.
- You need to cancel Google One in Google Play, go to this Google Play link. You must be logged into your account.
- Click Manage
- In the pop-up box, click Cancel Subscriptions.
Step 2.
- You need to go to your Delete Google Services Account Page. You must be logged into you your account.
- Look for Google One (for me it was under Gmail).
- Make sure you ONLY click the trash icon for Google One.
- You will get this prompt dialog box, please read it carefully!

- If you are 100% sure, check the Yes box, then click Delete Google One.
All done! I hope this helps someone else.
PS. If you re-subscribe, you need to re-add family members to any shared storage.
