I own a HP Laser Printer. Truth be told, I own one for the home office and one for the office. Recently I upgraded to MFP140W LaserJet giving away my older, retired HP Printer to a friend. Going into the HP Smart App, that old printer was persistently visible and there was no obvious way to delete it from my account. I found the way to delete an old printer from the HP Smart App. This worked for me, these are easy to follow instructions from an actual user and owner and should work for you. The steps are straight forward just not intuitive.

Step by Step Guide to Delete a Printer from the HP Smart App

  1. Fire up your favorite browser and go to https://www.hpsmart.com/
  2. Sign in to the website (top right), this is the same login you would use in the iOS or Android App.
  3. On the left-hand side, click Printers.

How to delete printer from HP Smart App.

  1. You will see your printers listed.
  2. Click Printer Options to expand the drop down.
  3. Click Remove Printer.
  4. You will receive an “Are you sure prompt”. If you’re sure, then click Remove.
  5. HP will ask you again if you’re really sure, flagging shared users, Instant Ink subscriptions, etc. If you’re still sure, then click Remove.
  6. The website will ask you to please wait… so wait.
  7. It will confirm it’s removed but now ask you to do something in the app. Click Close.
  8. Open the HP Smart App on your mobile device.
  9. Find the printer in the app and long press (hold on it) and a Hide Printer menu will appear.
  10. Tap Hide Printer.
  11. The HP Printer will be gone!
  12. You’re done!

It’s frustrating that HP makes you go through all of these steps and you can’t just manage it easily in the app, but either way this will solve the problem and ensure you old HP Printer is now deleted from the HP Smart App. If you ever need to re-add the printer, don’t worry you can still add it back to your (or any) HP Smart Account.

Hope this helps someone else!
