A few nights ago, mid work, something odd happened on my Windows PC: white text in the top-right corner of my screen showing FPS, GPU, CPU, and LAT. I had no idea why? My first thought. Malware. Or maybe a rogue browser extension. Cue the troubleshooting spiral.
What I Checked:
- Browser extensions: Disabled everything. No change.
- Task Manager: Nothing suspicious.
- Graphics settings: Bingo!
Turns out, it was NVIDIA’s performance overlay, enabled via GeForce Experience driver settings. If you’re seeing something similar, simply do this…
- Press Alt + R to toggle the overlay on/off. Easy!
To get rid of it permanently, Open GeForce Experience – Select Settings – In-Game Overlay – Disable.
Problem solved. No malware, just a software feature I didn’t know I had, didn’t ask for, and wasn’t immediately obvious.
Hope this helps someone else!
