With Apple iOS 14, iOS 15, and iOS 16 as Apple has made further changes to the way the Apple ID is both used, accessed, and controlled.
If you have different user accounts for iCloud and a different one for the AppStore such as you need accounts in multiple countries (expats), or you have a separate personal and work iTunes account (privacy), you might be struggling to sign in and out of the accounts on iOS 14. Apple does not make this obvious, but here’s you can sign out and sign in with a different ID on iOS 14 and iOS 15
Here’s how you sign in/out of the AppStore on iOS 14 (and this works for iOS 15 as well).
- Go to the Settings App
- Tap on Your Name/Account. This is the first item in the list, will say Your Name, AppleID, iCloud, etc.
- Tap on Media & Purchases
Now there are two paths.
If you’re on iOS 14.5
- In the dialogue box that opens, click on the little blue person icon in the top left corner. This is the sneaky place Apple hides the Sign Out setting in iOS 14.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Sign Out of Store.
- You can now sign back in using a different Apple ID
If you’re on iOS 14.6 or above
- In the dialogue box that opens, it will say Sign Out
- Tap Sign Out
That’s it! You’re done! Now you can sign out of the AppStore on iOS 14. This works on the iPhone and iPad.
Update: No, iOS 14, iOS 15, and iOS 16 do not provide an easy way to understand when it prompts you to sign in, which account it requires the password for, making iOS 14, iOS 15, and iOS 16 an enemy of anyone who lives or moves frequently between countries.
