I still use a Kindle 3 aka the Kindle Keyboard, yes, the Kindle that came out in 2010! While the 3G connectivity is no longer supported, you can still register your Kindle 3 on your Amazon account and sync purchases. You will need to make your purchases on Amazon.com, as the Kindle Store on the Kindle Keyboard is no longer available, but as an eReader, the Kindle Keyboard still rocks. Yes, this still work as of 2025!
How to Sign In to Amazon on the Kindle Keyboard and Older Amazon Devices
Here’s how to sign in using a combined password and one-time passcode (OTP).
- Sign in on your Kindle Keyboard (or other old Amazon device) using your email and password. The attempt will fail, which prompts Amazon to send an OTP to your 2FA method.
- Retrieve the OTP, check your phone or app for the 6-digit code. It’s valid for a few minutes.
- Combine Password + OTP In the password field, re-enter your password immediately followed by the 6-digit code, no spaces. e.g. examplepassword123456.
- Now log in using the combined password + OTP code. If entered correctly and within the time window, your Kindle Keyboard will be registered on your Amazon account!.
- You’re done!
Tips
- The OTP is time-based and expires quickly, if you use a password manager and have a complex password, it may be easier to change to a simpler password so you can enter your password quickly, then change your password back later.
This is officially supported by Amazon, I can’t find where I read the original instructions, but I did screenshot it at the time! See below.
Hope this helps someone else!
