I have a very broad definition of spam (the below forms the Do Not Spam Terms and Conditions), which is as follows:
Do Not Spam Terms and Conditions
Any email sent to Joshua Lowcock at any email address or via a contact form, in any capacity, will be classfied as Spam if any of the following occur.
- Pretending you think an article is “good” and my readers may “like it” or “may find it interesting” or I should “link to it” is a backlink request (even if you offer to pay). This includes asking to write for the website, publish a guest post, etc. I do not do SEO backlinks and asking will result in your name and email being published below.
- Using the Contact Form to try and sell me a product, service, etc. To be clear, the Contact Form is not a place for you to pitch your services to me including but not limited to SEO and social media services, app development, website development, mailing lists, virtual assistants, AI services, marketing services, etc.
- Where it’s clear that you have poorly scraped data from another service, or it’s more than likely you bought my email (work or personal) address from some database (or may have obtained my details inappropriately) to send me an unsolicited email.
- If it’s abundantly clear, you have no idea what I do, and it’s a broad generic sales pitch where the only effort you have put into it is merging in my email address and name (and sometimes not even that).
- Proposals or pitches to sell me data that it’s clear you’re scraping, stealing, or obtaining through borderline inappropriate means that will get you added to this list.
- Emailing me on my personal email when it’s business or work-related counts as spam. This also includes using the contact form for business purposes. If you want to talk about something work-related, use Linked In.
- Using a 3rd party to send spam on your behalf counts as spam from you directly, this includes 3rd party prospecting services, etc. you don’t get to blame them for your lack of diligence and misplaced trust.
- Emailing me at one company about another company I may (or may not) be associated with counts as spam and will get you permanently blocked at both companies.
- Sending sales emails marked as urgent, pretending it’s a follow up, multiple emails on the same day, and sales or marketing emails with read receipts (I block read receipts but also identify who asks for them).
- Solicitations of funding, investment, or commercial transactions either for acquisitions, sale of businesses, or commercial real estate.
- Promising to publish a review, or profile, or some other feature in a fee-for-service publication.
- A sales pitch where you end it with “or direct me to the right person” or “I was browsing your Linked In profile, and I thought.”
- A “schedule time with me now using this link.” or “Meeting Request” subject lines. Sneaky or attempts to be “clever” with the subject line to make it look like I know you or you’re following up to me are spam.
- Getting my name wrong; or getting my company wrong; or just anything where it’s obvious you are simply mass emailing.
- Generally anything unsolicited, at my own absolute discretion.
Any of the above behaviors will earn your email a place on this wall of shame. If you want your details removed, evidence that you have made a US$1000 or equivalent donation to a reputable charity is the ONLY way to delete your name. I get to pick the charity.
Important, you are automatically blocked once you’re on the wall of shame – so you’ll have to figure out a different way to contact me if you want to get removed. The rules are clear, you just chose to ignore them – so now you need to do some actual work rather than send spam.
I will also report your domain and mail host for spam.
For those who land on this page searching for a name, company, or email address to see if it’s legitimate, if the email or company is on the Wall of Shame, you were spammed, and the email can be safely ignored.
