If you’re running Microsoft Teams on macOS and get an error message that says:
Update driver?
Looks like your audio driver is a little out of date. Update to the latest version for the best sound-sharing experience.
It’s easy to fix and not some Windows-induced bug… I mean who has ever had to update a driver on macOS? It has absolutely nothing to do with the version of Microsoft Teams or macOS you’re running, it does require installing a Microsoft Teams driver – but it’s easy and takes less than 2 minutes.
Here’s how to fix the Microsoft Teams macOS Audio Driver error
Just follow these steps to install the audio driver:
- Make sure you have the latest Microsoft Teams app version installed.
- Quit Microsoft Teams.
- Go to macOS Finder and locate the Microsoft Teams app in the Application folder.
- Right-click on the Microsoft Teams app and select “Show Package Contents”.
- In the macOS Finder window, open the “Contents” folder.
- Now open the “Shared Support” folder.
- Double-click to install the “MSTeamsAudioDevice.pkg” (this is the macOS Teams audio driver!)
- Follow the prompts, you will need administrator privileges to install the driver.
- You’re done! Launch Microsoft Teams.
I’m not sure why Microsoft doesn’t install the driver automatically when it prompts you to update. I’m also unsure if the problem will re-emerge whenever there is an update for Microsoft Teams or macOS. So I recommend you remember the above or bookmark this page in case you need to do this again.
