Remarkable V Pen ReviewI’ve reviewed every Remarkable 2 pen alternative that I can get my hands on, you can read my Remarkable 2 alternative pen guide here. So I was excited to get my hands on the V-Pen and was fortunate enough to be gifted one. This is an unbiased review of the Remarkable V-Pen.

The Remarkable V-Pen is a from a company called Group Vertical based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. That said, the pens themselves are made in China – a bit like Apple “Design in USA. Made in China”. ha! The V-Pen retails for ~$70 on Amazon, but it has been regularly subject to a deal at ~$37+tax.

I’m reviewing the V-Pen keeping in mind both price points.

The V-Pen comes in a premium looking box, with a fabric pull tap to open. In the box you will find:

  • the V-Pen for the Remarkable 2 (EMR pen)
  • a nib pull tool
  • 5 replacement tips + 1 already inserted (so 6 in total)
  • instruction card / warranty registration

V-Pen’s warranty card says that if you register, you get a Lifetime Warranty and 5 Extra Tips.

Initial Thoughts on the V-Pen for Remarkable 2

The V-Pen feels premium, has a good weight. A lot of the package also mirrors the official Remarkable products, even down to the way the replacement tips come in a plastic protector card. The V-Pen itself is round, with one flat side (the magnetic side) and theres V-Pen branding on the eraser end.

Using the V-Pen on the Remarkable 2

In use on my Remarkable 2 (software 3.16) the V-Pen works as smoothly as the official pen. The tips were a bit slick initially, but settled down within about 5minutes of use. I find that true with a lot of after market nibs, they need to rough a bit to get that pen-like feel.

I did a few tests of swapping the official Remarkable Tips into the V-Pen and swapping back to the V-Pen tips. The Remarkable 2 pen tips, of course, work perfectly. After a few minutes of using both, I could no longer tell the difference. Keep that in mind, as your initial experience may be the same.

In terms of design, the V-Pen has a slightly different nib holder than the official Marker Plus. This change is actually good, because it prevents the dreaded Marker nib breakage you experience with the official Marker Plus.

One of the best things about the V-Pen is that the end works as an eraser. The eraser is more rounded than flat like the official Marker Plus for the Remarkable 2, but it works and it feels like an improvement.

The V-Pen does have magnets, so you can attach the V-Pen magnetically to the side of your Remarkable 2. Unlike other alternatives, the V-Pen attaches correctly to your Remarkable 2, and holds firmly even over the top of 3rd party cases. The V-Pen is an upgrade over the Amazon Kindle Scribe Pen.

Overall, the V-Pen is a great addition to the Remarkable 2 pen alternatives. It feels designed for the Remarkable 2 and the V-Pen company also sells other Remarkable accessories including Remarkable Paper Pro pen tips! So hoping they become a reliable after market source for quality Remarkable alternatives.

Overall, if you get the V-Pen for under $40 it’s a great deal, it’s only a good deal at full price and try and grab it on sale instead.

Hope this helps someone else!

PS. V-Pen also sells Remarkable 2 compatible tips for $10 delivered on Amazon, these are a great deal!
