Preview: XTEINK X4C, the X4 Classic a new XTEINK device

Everyone is excited about the X4 Pro, but did you know there’s another XTEINK X4 on the way? It’s the XTEINK X4C. No, it’s not for color, it’s the X4 Classic.

This is a refresh of the current XTEINK X4 but switching from USB C to a pogo connector. Here’s a leaked image from the FCC database.

Given they are going to drop USB C, I am expecting the X4C will be slightly smaller which bodes well for back of phone fit. Everything else looks unchanged, in terms of button layout but they may be fixing the MagSafe connector.

My quick analysis of the technical data suggests the XTEINK X4 Classic is essentially a refreshed version of the original X4, with updated internal hardware, a revised PCB layout, and slightly different RF and power characteristics according. I would bet that the X4 Classic uses newer components rather than a major feature change (not withstanding pogo plug). This may also fix the dreaded sunlight screen fade on the white X4.

It’s impossible to know what else will be in the fresh, like will the XTEINK X4C have a front light? I doubt it, my bet is it’s going to be hardware-wise the same as the X3 so we may get a real time clock and gyroscope. If they standardized on internal hardware outside of screens, that would lower their manufacturing cost.

This pretty much confirms my assumption that the original X4 is reaching end of life. If you have been tracking, the X4’s on Amazon are frequently out of stock.

Seems XTEINK is standardizing on pogo connectors… I guess I need to make peace with them.

This means there are 3 new XTEINK devices still to be released this year:

XTEINK S4, an Android-based eReader
XTEINK MX, an eInk second screen
XTEINK X4C aka X4 Classic, a redesigned XTEINK X4 (you just read about it on this page)

Exciting times ahead!
