I own a Remarkable 2, if you’re reading this you either own one or are thinking of getting one. I recommend the Remarkable.

Remarkable 2 Case

If you’re after a Remarkable 2 Case Alternative, I use this one from KuRoKo. It’s under US$20 on Amazon, so it’s much cheaper than the official Remarkable Folio. This case is a great alternative to the Remarkable Book folio, in fact, it works just like the official book folio and you can even use it to stand your Remarkable in portrait mode (as the photo shows).

This is really a mini-review of the KuRoKo case, an affordable replacement alternative case for the Remarkable 2, and is the best Remarkable 2 case you can buy on Amazon. I never bought the official case and use only this because the price is amazing!

I own and use this case myself, what I like is:

  • all-round protection
  • textured feel, it’s plastic, not fabric, but feels good
  • remarkable 2 clips in tight (clips into a thin shell)
  • soft felt inside that protects the remarkable screen
  • all buttons and charging ports are readily accessible
  • magnetic official pen still attaches (although I personally use the LAMY pen)
  • pocket at the back for holding your pen

The last point, the back pocket for the pen cannot be overstated as being awesome. It makes it less stressful when you throw your Remarkable 2 in your bag and you don’t need to worry the stylus will get lost or damaged. The pen pocket also stretches to hold the LAMY pen. FYI, I have read that on white Remarkable pens the back pocket can leave stains – but I don’t use (or own) the official Remarkable Pen, so can’t say for sure. I definitely haven’t had an issue but the LAMY pen is metal.

As a bonus, this case also comes in additional colors. I got the black, it’s a little closer to black-grey in color. But they also make brown, green (more aqua), blue (navy), and red (wine). At the time of writing, only black and brown are under US$20. There is also a light grey color case by the same company hidden on Amazon but oddly not listed with the other colors.

If you’re after a replacement case where the Remarkable clips in magnetically, the Ayotu case fits the bill. It’s twice the price of the KuRoKo, at US$40. I tried it, but prefer the marker sleeve in the KuRoKo.

Remarkable 1 Case Alternative/Replacement

I have received a few emails asking if I know of a similar case for the Remarkable 1. The only cases I know of are:

  • this case, made by the same people who make the Remarkble 2 case. The Remarkable 1 doesn’t clip in, it has taps that secure the Remarkable 1 into the case. It’s under US$20.
  • then there is this case, but it uses 3M adhesive to hold the case in place – personally not a fan of cases that require adhesive. It is about US$25.

I don’t own a Remarkable 1, so haven’t been able to test these cases – if you have an unwanted Remarkable 1 though and want to donate it to me, please contact me!

Update: Amazon Scribe Announced

Amazon announced their Remarkable competitor, the Amazon Scribe. I have written up a comparison of the Remarkable 2 v. Amazon Scribe here.
